Form 4 or 4473 on Each Order

How to choose the filing type order by order in the Dealer Portal

Where You’ll See It

  • Orders page: a new Filing type column on every order shows at a glance which orders are Form 4 and which are Form 4473 Only.

  • Order detail: the Filing type appears under the item, with a Change link to switch it for that order.

  • Assign Serial Numbers: “Select your preference for transferring these items” with Form 4473 Only or Form 4. Choose Form 4473 Only to mark eligible items as transferred, or Form 4 to file a Form 4 with ATF.

  • Top of Assign Serial Numbers: a banner says whether your FFL is filing Form 4s, plus a Default badge. Change your account default from the “here” link.

How to Change a Filing Type

  1. Open the order and click Change next to Filing type.

  2. Pick the new filing type and add a short reason.

  3. Click Save changes. A confirmation appears with an Undo option.

What Each Option Means

  • Form 4473 Only: you transfer the item on a 4473 and mark it as transferred in your inventory. No Form 4 is filed. On Assign Serial Numbers, eligible items show a Mark as Transferred button.

  • Form 4: the item is assigned to the customer and a Form 4 is filed with ATF. Good for dealers or customers who want to keep registering.

  • Default: follows your account setting. You can still pick the other option on any order.
